How ANGELICA PANGANIBAN Became A Fan Of BEN&BEN, IV OF SPADES & Other Indie Artists
It's no secret that Angelica Panganiban regularly shows up in gigs of today's hottest indie acts such as BEN&BEN, IV OF SPADES and the latter's former frontman Unique.
In fact, she and ex-boyfriend Carlo Aquino, have been spotted in indie turfs like Jess & Pat's and 12 Monkeys, channeling their inner fangirl and fanboy while watching these artists perform on stage.
During the recent ABS-CBN Trade Launch, we caught up with Angelica for a MYXclusive interview where she revealed how she became a fan of the indie scene.
Apparently, it was her good friend Glaiza de Castro who 'influenced' her love for independent local artists. And yes, she admitted that digital streaming platforms played a huge role in discovering these artists.
"Siguro, matagal-tagal na. 'Di ko siya exactly ma-recall. 'Yung influence ko kasi ng music sa indie scene sina Glaiza [De Castro] talaga," the 31-year-old Kapamilya star said, trying to recall when she started to become a fan of artists in the local indie music scene.
"So ayun,'pag may mga bago kaming nadidiscover. Siguro malaking tulong na rin talaga ang Spotify ngayon na nagkakaroon ng access sa mga ganung bagay. Siguro nag-mamagnify lang talaga siya lately," she added.
"Ben&Ben, si Unique, sila Bullet Dumas, sina Johnoy [Danao], mga ganun. Siguro mas buma-ballad, chill, folk, mga ganyan. Mas kalmado siguro," she stated, revealing why she loves listening to the artists she's currently a fan of.
Angelica also shared her experience when she recently attended the Fuji Rock Festival in Japan with Glaiza.
"Liberating, syempre. Tapos syempre, medyo humbling. Nag-camping lang kami for three nights. Mahirap. Talagang challenge sa friendship, physically and mentally. 'Yung utak ko na kumakausap sa katawan. 'Sige, sige. Kaya mo 'yan. Laban mo'," the Playhouse actess said.
"Matagal na planning. Actually, halos mga two years siyang plinano. Takot kami. Takot kami dahil baka kung ano magawa namin dun. Wala kaming idea at all, eh. So ayun, eh naging okay naman. As in sobrang worth it lahat ng pagod dun sa sayan na na-experience namin during the show, during the festival," she continued.
Angelica Panganiban is set to star in a new serye titled Playhouse alongside Zanjoe Marudo, Kisses Delavin and our very own VJ Donny Pangilinan.
