JJ ABRAMS Shares First Set Photo From 'Star Wars: Episode IX'
Cameras have officially started rolling for Star Wars: Episode IX and director JJ Abrams shared the first set photo from the film. Not much can be said about the photo but we can somehow see an image of Finn (played by John Boyega), Chewbacca, and possibly Rey (played by Daisy Ridley).
Abrams also took the opportunity to pay tribute to one of the pillars of the franchise, the late Carrie Fisher. "Bittersweet starting this next chapter without Carrie, but thanks to an extraordinary cast and crew, we are ready to go," the director tweeted.
Her untimely death seemed to have been a main concern with the story's continuity but it was revealed last week that never-before-seen footage of the actress as General Leia Organa shot during The Force Awakens (also directed by Abrams) will be integrated into the new film. We shall see how that plays out.
The role of Leia Organa in Star Wars Episode IX will again be played by Carrie Fisher, using previously unreleased footage shot for Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Star Wars: Episode IX is slated for release in December 2019.
