"I Don't Feel Like I'm Taking After Anyone": SABRINA CARPENTER On Being The Next MILEY, SELENA Or DEMI
Karen Jane Ng
World, meet Sabrina Carpenter: a 19 year-old actress and singer who's not trying to be anyone else but herself.
The rising artist kickstarted her career by starring in the Disney Channel series Girl Meets World and movie Further Adventures in Babysitting then later lent her voice to the animated show Milo Murphy's Law.
Amidst all her acting roles, Sabrina took the leap in 2015 by releasing her debut album Eyes Wide Open which was quickly followed by EVOLution. She even got the chance to join Ariana Grande during her Brazil tour and collaborate with The Vamps and Jonas Blue!

Her path seems similar to other Disney alums who turned into pop stars. But while Sabrina is flattered by the obvious comparison to MIley Cyrus, Selena Gomez and Demi Lovato, she has her own story. "I don't feel like I'm taking after anyone, at the end of the day we all have incredibly different journeys despite where we get started," she said in our MYXclusive interview via email.

Get to know more about Sabrina and her love for acting and songwriting in our MYXclusive interview below:
MYX: What's the story behind your latest single "Almost Love"?
Sabrina: It's falling for someone and knowing that you're inches away from love. It either has a happy ending, or no ending at all. It was very easy to write because in these young years of our lives they always say you lose people along the way, sometimes for no reason other than they were meant to teach you a lesson, and some of those are definitely "almost lovers".
MYX: Your third album Singular is slated for release this year and we heard it'll include a lot of cool collaborations. Can you tell us more about it?
Sabrina: There's definitely collabs on the album. I don't want to give away much about the album other than its singularity Sabrina.
MYX: What was it like jumping from being an actress to being a pop star?
Sabrina: I think too much of the same thing for so long can sometimes be mentally strenuous. I love that I have two very different creative outlets and I feel I still have so much to learn in both.
MYX: As part of the Disney Channel family, do you ever feel like you're taking after the likes of Miley Cyrus, Demi Lovato and Selena Gomez?
Sabrina: It's flattering as they're all successful in their own paths and people I admire growing up. But I don't feel like I'm taking after anyone, at the end of the day we all have incredibly different journeys despite where we get started.
MYX: What's your favorite thing about being a singer-songwriter?
Sabrina: Feeling like I'm talking to all the tender hearts in the world. I think music is a language and I love how far it can travel.
MYXph: Who is your dream collaboration?
Sabrina: Rihanna. Lol.
MYXph: How about when it comes to acting?
Sabrina: I'm a big fan of Emma Stone.
MYXph: What do you love most about acting? Could you ever choose between acting and singing?
Sabrina: I love getting to tell stories that I cannot through music, I love transforming myself, but truly there's still so much I want to do and challenge myself with when it comes to acting. Hahaha. I don't choose, that's why I do both!
MYXph: What's your message to your Filipino fans?
Sabrina: I can't wait to meet you all and give you big hugs! You have given me endless love and support and you will never know how grateful I am, so I guess I will just have to come and tell you..
Sabrina will appear in The Hate U Give in October and The Short History of the Long Road in 2019 while her new album Singular finally drops this December. In the meantime, let's listen to her single "Almost Love":
