Recently, the internet has unearthed old, offensive tweets from Riverdale star Charles Melton. The 27-year-old actor faced backlash from fans who interpreted the alleged tweets from 2011 and 2012 as fat-shaming.
He has since made his Twitter account private, but not before fans can have a screenshot of the alleged tweets.

Amid the controversy, Charles issued an apology for his "inconsiderate" remarks. "I’m truly sorry for making inconsiderate comments several years ago and apologize to anyone I hurt," he said in a statement. "What I posted and said was immature, offensive and inappropriate. I am ashamed of how I acted and there is no excuse for that behavior."
He added, "I’m striving to do better and will use this experience to grow, helping others to understand how these types of statements are completely unacceptable."
Charles will be back for the third season of Riverdale this fall, and has started filming for the movie adaptation of the bestselling novel “The Sun Is Also a Star” along with Grown-ish actress Yara Shahidi.
