THE WEEKND Abandoned An Entire "Upbeat" Album After Breakup With SELENA GOMEZ?
Fans rejoiced when The Weeknd, whose real name is Abel Tesfaye, dropped his latest album My Dear Melancholy which signaled his return to his dark-alt-R&B roots.
But many also speculated that his recent breakup with ex-girlfriend Selena Gomez prompted the resurgence of his gloomy, minor-key sound, and we think they hit the nail right on the head.
"Prior to Melancholy, I had a whole album written, done," the Canadian artist told Time. "Which wasn’t melancholy at all because it was a different time in my life." When asked for more details about the record—including whether he was still with Sel when he wrote it—Abel said, “It was very upbeat—it was beautiful.”
Sadly, fans would never get to hear this "upbeat" album as he has already moved past that part of his life. And especially now that he seems to have rekindled his romance with supermodel Bella Hadid.
