"You're Not Alone": DWAYNE JOHNSON Opens Up About His Battle With Depression
Former pro wrestling champion and action star Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson broke the stigma on mental health disorders after opening up about his own struggle with depression. The 45-year-old actor urged men facing the same battle to not be afraid or to be embarassed of opening up about their illness.
Got tons of responses to this. Thank you. We all go thru the sludge/shit and depression never discriminates. Took me a long time to realize it but the key is to not be afraid to open up. Especially us dudes have a tendency to keep it in. You’re not alone— Dwayne Johnson (@TheRock) April 2, 2018
At the age of 15, Dwayne witnessed his mother Ata attempt suicide by walking into oncoming traffic shortly after they were evicted from their apartment. Since then, he has sunk into depression. He told The Express, "Struggle and pain is real. I was devastated and depressed. I reached a point where I didn’t want to do a thing or go anywhere. I was crying constantly.”
Dwayne admitted that he could have also become suicidal had he not found the inner strength to face those dark times. “We both healed but we’ve always got to do our best to pay attention when other people are in pain,” he said. “We have to help them through it and remind them they are not alone.”
Dwayne is currently promoting his upcoming sci-fi monster film Rampage out on April 12th.
Do you know anyone who's been struggling with depression? Please remind them they're not alone.
