MYXclusive: Playback Music Festival Takes Fans On A Trip Down Memory Lane!
Filipino fans had a blast from the past during the first ever Playback Music Festival!
The throwback concert brought so much nostalgia with its amazing lineup of local and international acts who treated the crowd to their anthemic hits from the 1990s and 2000s.
Of course, everyone couldn't help singing and dancing along to their favorite tunes from the past decades.
Acoustic duo MYMP opened the festival with their original hits and popular covers of "Tell Me Where It Hurts", "Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now", and "Especially For You".
Celebrating their 18th year in the music scene, Moonstar88 hyped up the audience during their set which included "Sulat", "Migraine", and "Torete". They also performed a snippet of "Ang Huling El Bimbo" with Eraserheads member Buddy Zabala on bass.
Rivermaya made the crowd ecstatic with their classic hits like "Awit ng Kabataan", "Ulan", "Hinahanap-hanap Kita", and "Kisapmata"!
The first foreign act was trio Stephen Speaks led by Rockwell Ryan Ripperger who performed with his loop pedal incorporated with dreamy sax tunes.
"You know I won't disappoint you," said Ripperger before singing "Passenger Seat" which was a huge hit in the Philippines back in 2003.
Up next was Sixpence None The Richer frontman Leigh Nash who was cheerfully entertaining. She had a lot of jokes to offer in between performances, though she began her set paying homage to the late The Cranberries vocalist Dolores O'Riordan by singing “Dreams”.
She did not let her Filipino fans down as she sang “There She Goes”, ”Don't Dream It's Over" and "Kiss Me" with utmost flair. Her first solo single “Need To Be Next To You” was another crowd-pleaser.
Leigh also debuted the one-day old song "You and Me" which she wrote while waiting inside the dressing room of It's Showtime last Friday.
The Playback Music Festival featured the return of Vertical Horizon! It was an extra special night as lead singer Matt Scannell celebrated the first few minutes of his birthday on stage. He was greeted by the crowd while organizers brought out a big birthday cake. "Masaya kaming makasama kayo ulit,” he told the crowd .
The final act was British boyband Blue! Lee, Simon, Duncan, and Antony grooved to upbeat hits like "All Rise" and "Fly By" and serenaded fans with “If You Come Back” and “Best In Me". Everyone was partying like it's 2002 as they closed the show with "One Love"!
