“JRoa” of popular rap group Ex Battalion has officially gone solo. The 18-year old singer-songwriter and rapper who rebranded himself as John Roa recently signed an artist management contract with Viva Artists Agency.

Born and raised in Cebu, John wrote his first song at the age of 10. He joined various talent competitions like Pilipinas Got Talent in 2013 but his name rose to fame online when he joined Ex B. He made several songs with the group including “Need You”, “Bootyful”, and an unofficial version of the group's breakout hit “Hayaan Mo Sila” before deciding to go solo in the latter part of 2017.

“Yung pag-alis ko po sa group ay napag-usapan namin last year. Napag-usapan namin na gusto ko mag-explore pa sa music ko, na gusto ko pa makilala ng tao ‘yung mga kaya ko pang gawin sa music,” he explained.

Although he's longer part of Ex B, John says he's in good terms with the rap group and he still wishes them well. “Yung bond po na nangyari sa amin before hindi na siya katulad ng dati pero when it comes to shows/projects, ok pa naman po kami. Nagkikita pa rin at nag-aapiran pa rin," John revealed in our MYXclusive interview which you can watch below!

As part of his rebranding, John Roa released the single “Oks Lang” last January 13 which was produced by his mentor Quest. The video has over 4 million views on YouTube and even reached the #2 spot on the MYX charts. Find out about his reaction to the success of “Oks Lang” in this MYXclusive video!

As one of the new artists on Viva's roster, he is set to release a new EP called Reintroduction and collaborate with Julian Trono and Karencitta.
