MYXclusive: URBANDUB Celebrates 10th Anniversary Of "Under Southern Lights" Album!
Urbandub pulled off a beyond exceptional gig to celebrate the 10th anniversary of their acclaimed album Under Southern Lights which gave birth to unforgettable rock anthems "Guillotine", "Evidence" and "The Fight Is Over"!
The band didn't expect that the first leg of their bar tour would be jam-packed. But many Dubistas who patiently waited in line were not able to enter 70s Bistro and watch the gig.
"Now we know and want to continue this event but hopefully make it in a bigger venue next time. We are truly grateful to everyone that show their love and support for our music. Again, we apologize sa mga hindi na makakapasok."
The impressive turnout brought back the founding members Gabby Alipe and John Dinopol to a very special time for the Giant Sound of the South.
"Masaya kami kasi parang nag flashback kami ngayon coming up with this event. Sa dami ng tao na dumalo, parang bumabalik 'yung mga panahong 2007-2008 na era," said Gab during our MYXclusive interview.
Truly, the album cycle of Under Southern Lights was one of the band's most successful! In fact, "The Fight Is Over" peaked at #1 on the MYX Hit Chart and earned a nomination for Favorite Music Video in the MYX Music Awards.
Even songs from the decade-old album which are not included in their regular setlist like “Cebuana” and “Anthem” got a huge reaction from the crowd!
The Mood Is Bright.
In case you're wondering, Urbandub is definitely back in full swing with new members Sam Saludsong on drums and Russel Manaloto on bass. Gab assures the Dubistas that their days of laying low and taking a breather are now through.
“To be able to perform these songs again with new members, parang nakaka-inspire ulit magsulat ng kanta, to be a musician again full time.”
“We also kinda missed it, being able to perform standing up with our electric guitars,” said John who performed acoustic sets with Gab during their hiatus.
Before Urbandub's solid and nostalgic set, Autotelic and December Avenue entertained everyone with their own hits.
The next leg of Urbandub's bar tour is happening on November 24 at Zili with opening acts Sirens and Faspitch. But thanks to the overwhelming success of the first leg, expect more gigs in a bigger venue to accommodate all their loyal supporters.
