2017 has been an awesome year for Portugal. The Man who just performed their hit single "Feel It Still" at the American Music Awards!
While it took them three years to come up with the new album Woodstock, "Feel It Still" was written in just 45 minutes. The indie rock band, who's been making music for over a decade, was surprised to see it go global.
According to drummer Jason Sechrist in our MYXclusive phone interview, "When we started with the song, it's something that came really fast. We just had a bass line... and the next thing you know everyone was 'Okay. That's really cool. Keep playing, keep playing' and then recorded it. And before we knew it, we have the song... It was a real surprise."
Aside from being featured in various ads, the groovy hit became an anthem against social injustice. Check out its #theresistance themed music video here:

Portugal. The Man are not "rebels for kicks" who want to be hitmakers. They're here to make a statement that the world definitely needs to hear right now! "[Woodstock] feels like a statement for 2017. We felt like things are getting real crazy and fast, I would say. And so we decided to kinda make a statement really quickly towards the end of the record and push these kinds of feelings," Jason explained.
"The statement we're making, we wanted to say, 'Hang on. I know things get crazy but you know, don't forget things have been like this before. Things get this way and we've seen it in the past and we wanted you to know, to just be wise and think for yourself. And stay focused and... fight for your right to party!'"
