Cinema One Originals Opens With "Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri"
Lance Paolo Lim
The 13th season of Cinema One Originals has officially begun. Once again, the eagerly anticipated film festival did not disappoint as it opened with a black comedy film that tackles some of the most pressing societal issues today.
Seven months after the brutal death of her teenage daughter, Mildred Hayes played by Frances McDormand becomes enraged with the authorities for the lack of progress on the dreadful case. But when she sees three billboards available for rental, she decides to go on an all-out war against their town's highly-respected sheriff (Woody Harrelson) by sending a bold message to him. "RAPED WHILE DYING,” “STILL NO ARRESTS,” “WHY, SHERIFF WILLOUGHBY?" the three billboards read in sequence. To what lengths would Mildred go to achieve her ends? Watch the trailer below:
The beauty of the film is its unpredictability. From the beginning of the movie until it reaches the final few seconds, you will never know where Three Billboards will be headed.
With a fantastic ensemble and a compelling story that aims to give a message of hope and awakening, one would feel inspired after watching the film. Check out VJ Ai's reaction below:
Written and directed by Martin McDonagh, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri also stars Sam Rockwell, John Hawkes, Peter Dinklage, Abbie Cornish, Caleb Landry Jones, Kathryn Newtown, Lucas Hedges, and Samara Weaving.
