Pinoy Metal Band Enters Pinoy MYX Countdown! VALLEY OF CHROME Stays True To What They Believe In
Maan de Vera
It's not so often that we get to see a rockin' metal band enter the MYX charts. But with catchy, melodic guitar riffs, a perfect balance of singing and screaming and most importantly HONEST music, five-piece OPM band VALLEY OF CHROME is here to prove that they have what it takes to run in the race of mainstream, chart-topping artists.
Just recently, Valley Of Chrome's music video for their latest single "PANGAKO" garnered the 20th spot on the Pinoy MYX Countdown and MYXph.com had the opportunity to talk to the guys behind the song.
"It felt very good knowing that people not familiar with our music can finally get to watch and hear us. To debut at #20 is no big deal to other artists, but for us na metal ang music, it felt so rewarding," vocalist Rogel Africa shared. On the other hand, it was "unbelievable" for bassist Jordan Constantino to have entered the chart, "Gusto lang talaga namin siya lumabas sa MYX and nothing else. Fortunately, sineryoso kami ng ibang friends namin at binoto nila yung song. Surprised din talaga kasi bukod sa medyo "maingay" kami for MYX viewers, independent band kami na walang major label support. Malaking thank you talaga sa mga bumoto."
Conveying a message of commitment, Africa further explained, "The song is basically my idea of oneÆs search for the truth. General siya eh. ItÆs staying true to who/what you believe in. Lahat naman tayo nawawalan ng direksyon sa buhay, but we all eventually find our way back," adding "And yun, nagiging ôvowö mo not to let go of that feeling. Being in love with the truth-be it in the form of a person, God, or a belief system that works for you."
Drummer Paul Eusebio told us that it took two months for the song to be finalized. Guitarist Jethro Mendoza also revealed, "It was written a long time ago, but we shaped the final version pretty fast."
The band is truly grateful for all the people who made this possible but Tatel Marcelino, another guitarist of the band, hopes that the song reaches an even higher spot on the countdown, "(I'm) happy and proud. We never imagined it to chart, but hopefully it will chart higher so it'll be a big statement to our critics and people wary of having a screaming rock band enter a pop video chart."
