Liverpool's historic rock 'n' roll dive The Cavern Club which is synonymous to The Beatles could permanently shut down due to the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The club owners and Liverpool Mayor Joe Anderson himself sent out a warning about the club's potential closure. Anderson told the Liverpool Echo: "The fact that the world-famous Cavern could close forever because of Covid-19 should bring home to the Government how much our hugely treasured music industry is in peril. This virus has caused unimaginable pain and grief but it’s proving to be an existential threat to our cultural scene"
He added: "The prospect of losing a national jewel like the Cavern is a horrible scenario for all concerned, be they Beatles fans, music lovers and above all those whose livelihoods depend on it."
John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and former drummer Pete Best were discovered by music entrepreneur Brian Epstein during the band's performance in November 1961. The rest is history.
