Black Sheep's first digital series Hello Stranger premiered last June 24 and was warmly received by fans of boys' love or BL series. In the first episode, we saw top student Mico (played by JC Alcantara) getting paired with varsity basketball player Xavier (Tony Labrusca) for a class project.
JC shared in a MYXclusive interview that he was initially unsure about playing an LGBT role due to the fact that most of the Philippine audience are still unaccepting of such content. In fact, the rising actor previously declined two other BL projects prior to Hello Stranger.
But all changed when, after a call from his lesbian aunt, JC realized that he can serve as a voice for this community who constantly face discrimination and rejection through this platform. "Tinanggap ko kasi gusto kong maging boses na sana someday tanggapin na sila, na someday makatanggap sila ng pagmamahal sa 'tin at respeto mula sa 'tin," he said, before firmly and proudly adding, "I'm an ally."
