It’s starting to feel like everyday is a tug-of-war between staying informed and staying sane. Now that social media has been populated with bad news, serious issues, and tiring exchanges, it’s really tempting to just disconnect and disappear from the digital world. However, now that these platforms have proven to be an effective fact-checking tool, it’s totally difficult to completely turn our backs on it.

So, here’s how you can manage your social media anxiety without deactivating your accounts:

1. Develop a schedule.

Try to avoid scrolling through your feed the moment you wake up or right before your sleep. Create a routine and visit these sites during selected times of the day only. This way, you won’t be overwhelmed with the stuff that you will encounter when you browse.

2. Curate your space.

Be unapologetic when it comes to unfriending, unfollowing, or even blocking those that simply make the situation worse for you. Just like in real life, you must fight for your peace of mind. So, it’s totally fine to walk away from accounts that are giving you unnecessary stress.

3. Find the balance.

It’s easy to lose yourself now that there isn’t much that we can do but stay at home. But you have to remember that there is more to the world than who we are online. Go and live an actual life that you enjoy. This way, you’ll eventually stop sweating your internet woes.

While we are completely on board with taking a social media detox every now and then, we think that it’s best that you hang in there and keep your accounts active. It may not be easy, but it’s the closest thing to staying connected that we can get in a world of social distancing.
