Gerard Way has come out to reveal that forming My Chemical Romance was pivotal in helping him overcome PTSD.
In a recent Comic-Con appearance in Los Angeles, the MCR frontman and The Umbrella Academy creator said kickstarting the band became a form of therapy for him following the September 11, 2001 attacks. "So 9/11 happens, and I pick up the guitar again and I write "Skylines And Turnstiles" and then I called Otter (drummer Matt Pellissier) and then I called Ray (Toro, guitarist), and we got Mikey (Way, bassist) in – and we just started building this momentum."
"It became my therapy from the PTSD that everyone had experienced from 9/11, and processing that," Gerard continued. Check out his full LACC panel here:
A My Chemical Romance reunion has been rumored for months now following Joe Jonas' claims that he heard the band rehearsing in a New York studio next to them. But both Gerard and ex-guitarist Frank Iero have shut it down.
