This year's Cinemalaya entry Belle Douleur is bent on proving that love knows no age.
Starring veteran actress Mylene Dizon and breakout actor Kit Thompson, Belle Douleur tells the story of an independent woman in her late 40s who's convinced by her friends to do something "stupid, reckless and irresponsible" after losing her mother. She then meets an antique collector who's 20 years younger. The two fall in love but she soon realizes he has dreams she can't be part of.
According to its director Joji Alonso, Mylene was her first choice to play the female lead but she considered other actors for the male lead. She's glad though that the role eventually went to Kit which was the topmost reason why he decided to return to the Philippines after staying in New York for three years.
"Not only did he meet the physical requirements, he was cooperative enough to play around with the role," Mylene shared about her leading man during the press conference. "It's not an easy role for anyone to take on but he accepted it."
Belle Douleur arrives in cinemas this August 14. See the trailer here:
