Opportunities like this don't come everyday and MYX got the privilege to talk to renowned Pinoy comic book artist Mico Suayan during the special signing event for War of the Realms: New Agents of Atlas #1 (which features the debut of Marvel's newest Filipina superhero Wave) held last May 11 at Comic Odyssey.
Mico got his start in the industry as an artist and a storyboard writer for advertising companies before submitting samples of his work to comic book giants DC and Marvel which eventually gave him an offer.
Last month, the comic artist revealed via a Facebook post that the inspiration behind Wave's overall look was none other than actress Nadine Lustre.
He shared to us just how Nadine inspired the look for the character: "When I draw something, I tend to look into famous people just for reference. Tapos yun, nakita ko sa internet yung picture ni Nadine. Maganda kasi yung features niya kasi talagang Filipina beauty, ang ganda ng color ng skin niya, yung katawan niya and 'yun, doon ko kinuha yung inspiration behind the artwork."
As for Wave's role in the Marvel Universe, Mico said she'll play a huge and important role in the new comic series. He also thinks that the idea of the Pinay character becoming part of the successful Marvel Cinematic Universe isn't too farfetched, especially now that a Shang-Chi film is under development over at Marvel Studios.
