The local heavy metal scene is still alive and kicking as proven by Valley Of Chrome during the launch of their new record Victorious at Studio 72 in Kalayaan last February 22. And true to form, that word alone summed everything up!
The ultra-packed venue also featured performances by SkyChurch, The Republicats, Remnants, Typecast, Queso, Chicosci and Greyhoundz.
MYX had the chance to chat with the five-piece crew comprised of Rogel Africa on vocals, Tatel Marcelino and Kaloi Cambaliza on guitars, Jordan Constantino on bass, and Paul Eusebio on drums who were all in a state of euphoria following the successful show.
According to the band, the new 12-track effort is their "heaviest" material to date and the entire process of making the album took them over 5 years. "Isang conscious decision din para sa'min na i-introduce yung songs per single basis para mas ma-digest ng mga nakikinig, as opposed to giving it na isang bagsakan lang," said Rogel.
When asked about the current state of the local metal scene, the boys confidently said that the genre is still thriving, despite what others may think. "As long as may batang naka-itim tapos nakaka-appreciate ng heavy music, feeling ko all metal bands dito sa Pilipinas will survive."
