Over the years, Himig Handog helped propel aspiring songwriters and up-and-coming artists to the spotlight—take for example Moira dela Torre who interpreted the controversial "Titibo-Tibo" in 2017, and KZ Tandingan with "Mahal Ko o Mahal Ako" in 2014. On it's 9th year, the highly anticipated songwriting and music video competition, with the theme "Love Songs and Love Stories," introduced 10 new original compositions culled from more than 5,000 entries sent by Filipinos all over the country and abroad.
