Having finally dropped his most intimate album to date, Shawn Mendes recently opened up to Entertainment Weekly about how close his new record is to his heart.
The 19-year-old Canadian singer-songwriter - who earned praises from fans and critics alike for his evolution as an artist - undeniably poured out his soul into his well-crafted pop album.
"A lot of things. Between being a kid to being an adult. Transitioning from somebody who wasn’t very confident in themselves musically to somebody who considers themselves a musician. And a lot of different things creatively, becoming so much more confident in what I do. I don’t know, I just feel… different. I feel like I’m going through a change in a good way," he stated, sharing how he transitioned as an artist.
Asked by EW why most of the songs from his new album don't include gender-specific pronouns, he answered: "Yeah, it’s true. It doesn’t matter. Everything is up for your perspective. Let it be you. It really just doesn’t matter to me at all nowadays. I love how open everybody is and how open everything is. It just makes life more fun."
Shawn Mendes collaborated with Julia Michaels, Khalid, and John Mayer for his self-titled new album.
